Intelligent Systems, Computer Architecture, Analytics, and Security (ISCAAS) Laboratory

Mission and Objectives

The ISCAAS lab undertakes cutting edge research projects related to embedded and cyber-physical systems, secure and trustworthy systems, intelligent systems, parallel computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and computer vision. The research projects in the ISCAAS lab target practical applications. The ISCAAS mission is to produce excellent researchers and successful professionals for both academia and industry. The projects in ISCAAS lab have been sponsored by various funding agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)/National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), and Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC).

Projects

The ISCAAS lab is currently undertaking the following projects:

  • A Multimodal Attention-Based Deep Learning Framework for Real-Time Activity Recognition at the Edge
  • Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Spacecraft Trajectory Optimization and Planning
  • FogAg: A Novel Fog-Assisted Smart Agriculture Framework for Multi-Layer Sensing and Real-Time Analytics of Water-Nitrogen Colimitations in Field Crops
  • Lightweight Protocols for Secure Authentication and Communication between Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and the Ground Control Station
  • Design of Safe and Secure Autonomous Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation Systems
  • Security and Trust for Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems
  • Design of Smart and Secure Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems
  • Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security
  • Position Openings

The ISCAAS lab has three Ph.D. research position openings for Fall 2023: one in the area of cybersecurity (focus on hardware security, AI security, and multimedia encryption), one in the area of computer vision (focus on robotics and computer vision in agriculture), and one in the area of deep learning hardware (focus on acceleration of deep learning models). Candidates who have done their Masters in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering (or are about to complete) with a thesis in relevant areas are especially encouraged to apply. Prospective students should have taken courses and should have done some projects in the relevant area to the position they are applying for. Candidates with prior research publications in the respective areas are highly encouraged to apply. Prospective candidates should send their CV and any other information such as published papers or completed projects that will strengthen their application to Dr. Arslan Munir (amunir@ksu.edu)
