I really enjoy going out and hunting, and Kansas is a great place for
that since we have a nice variety of game animals, with seasons that are
generally in the fall or winter (this gives us spring and summer to tune
our aim).
I've been after deer, quail, prairie chicken, pheasant, dove, and
rabbit. With a variety of game like that, you need a couple of different
guns to properly bag your quarry. (You don't want to go shooting a
rabbit with a 270 unless you were really mean and didn't want supper in
the first place).
This is my deer rifle. It shoots 270 cal. with pretty good accuracy.
The 270 is a necked down 30.06, so it shoots a smaller slug with the
same powder charge giving it a very flat plane of trajectory.
It is a right handed bolt action, which isn't exactly to my liking
since I shoot left-handed. I am fairly good with it nonetheless.
It was bought at a gun show and is a nice custom gun the action is a
Mauser and I believe the barrel is a Remington.
My shotgun is a 12 Gauge Remington Model 10. This pump-action
discharges spent shells out the bottom of the gun so hot powder gas and
shells don't fly across my face when I eject shells.
The barrel has a quick release button making it easy to take down
and clean, but it's difficult to re-assemble unless the receiver is set
back on just right.
The magazine can hold about 6 shells and the barrel will get plenty
warm when you use a box of shells on clay pigeons as fast as Joseph can
toss 'em for me.
Let's get back to Matthew's page.
