For the last ten years, he has been attending seminars to gain his
current expertise in this specialization. He is currently working toward
an accreditation in Veterinary Dentistry, by working closely with his
mentor.
His mentor, Dr. Peter Emily of Denver, Colorado, is the founder of
complete animal dentistry. He is world renowned and routinely travels
presenting seminars and demonstrations.
Through complete animal dentistry, the patient goes under full
anesthesia. Virtually any dental procedure that can be applied to humans
can be applied to animals in this manner.
For example: Dr. Harkins has performed pulpotomies on dogs, as well
as bobcats and mountain lions, and root canals on older dogs. A poor
bite can cause your pet a degenerative body condition which can be
corrected with apporpriate therapy including, braces, bite plates, caps,
or crowns.
To some it seems absurd to administer these corrective procedures on an animal, but over time a definite improvement in your companion's attitude and quality of life can be assured.
Horses need dentistry too! For this, Dr. Harkins has been performing equine dentistry for 28 years.
Your pets will thank you.
