final time: Monday, December 14, 11:50am, in Nichols 122.
November 17
Assignment 7's due date has been moved to Friday, Nov. 20.
30 October
Exam 2 is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, N122, 10:30am. It will
be in a format like that used for Exam 1. You are allowed one
8.5" x 11" note sheet. The exam will cover material from
Lecture notes Chapters 8, 4, and 5.
Because I am travelling, there is no lecture on Nov. 4, 9, and 11.
We will restart lectures on Friday, Nov. 13, commencing with Chapter 6
of the Lecture notes.
24 September
There is a possibility that I must make an emergency trip to
Kansas City tomorrow (Friday) morning and
miss our 10:30 meeting. If this happens, I will ask someone
to replace me and distribute a review sheet about the exam
for next week Wednesday. In the case that my Plan B fails,
here is some information that will help you prepare for the
exam:
Preparing for Exam 1
-
Where and when: in the classroom, Nichols 122, at 10:30am,
Weds. September 30. It is a 50-minute exam, worth about 27-28 points.
-
Format: Closed book, no electronic devices allowed.
Bring pencils, blank paper, and one 8.5"-by-11" note sheet.
(More on the note sheet, below.)
The exam's questions will be similar to the ones you worked for
homework exercises 1-3. Indeed, the
exam is a homework exercise that you will do with pencil and paper
in the classroom.
(I do realize that you will have a tougher time writing the
answers without the aid of the proof-checker program, but I want
to learn what you have remembered from these earlier activities.
Everyone is in the same boat, and there are no fixed percentages
for A's, B's, etc.)
-
Topics: the material from Chapters 0-3 and, especially,
the material from the first three homework exercises.
-
The note sheet: This can be hand-written or photocopied or anything,
as long as it is one sheet. It can be filled on both sides.
If you can't think of what to place on the note sheet, use
answers from the homework exercises.
-
How to prepare:
Review the notes you took during my lectures. (When I write things
on the chalk board, they are important.) Review your work for the
homework exercises. Review the sample solutions I posted.
Make a good note sheet and study your note sheet so that you know
what you placed on it.
You are welcome to email me questions prior to the exam.
I will do my best to answer them the same day.
20 September
There is no lecture on Monday, Sept. 28.
The first exam will be Weds., Sept. 30.
A preview will be given on Friday, Sept. 25.
On Friday, Oct. 2,
representatives from the KSU College Advisory Board
will host the class and
give advice on job skills, employment search,
and career development.
The lectures return to their usual format on Monday, Oct. 5.
18 September
There were two typos in Question 4 of Exercise set 3.
Although the typos do not affect the part of the question
that you are asked to answer,
I fixed them, anyway. Sorry.
25 August
The first assignment is due at classtime on Monday, 31 August.
Please work your solutions on paper and bring them to class.
